Humane technology is a concept to empower ethical management of technology, align tech with human values, and reject the current exploitation of tech users. It is no longer enough to adapt humanly as technologies transform our world. The challenge is to re-imagine technology for a more humane world, and we believe humanities-inspired research will be vital to realizing the potential of this shift. [source]

• Data Smog (StoryGraph | Goodreads) - A 1997 book by journalist David Shenk that addresses the author's ideas on how the information technology revolution would shape the world, and how the large amount of data available on the Internet would make it more difficult to sift through and separate fact from fiction. APA published an article on data smog in 1998 and in 2004 Shenk's original term "data smog" was added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
• Digital Minimalism (StoryGraph | Goodreads) - In this book, Cal Newport applies the idea of minimalism (the art of knowing how much is just enough) to personal technology, as a key to living a focused life in an increasingly noisy world.
• Enshittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What to Do About It (StoryGraph | Goodreads) - Cory Doctorow's book on Enshittification aka platform decay, a process in which two-sided online products and services decline in quality over time. The book shows us the specific decisions that led us here, who made them, and most importantly - how they can be undone.
• Indistractable (StoryGraph | Goodreads) - A practical guide that teaches you how to overcome distractions to achieve your goals and live a more focused, fulfilling life.
• Responsible Tech Guide 2025 - Free guide by All Tech Is Human, discusses the Responsible Tech movement and is meant to be a helpful roadmap for people seeking their place in Responsible Tech as well as invitation to join the growing community.
• Ten Arguments to Delete Your Social Media Accounts Right Now (StoryGraph | Goodreads) - In this book, Jaron Lanier explains the perils of social media, why its toxic effects are at the heart of its design, and explains in ten simple arguments why liberating yourself from its hold will transform your life and the world for the better.
• The Age of Surveillance Capitalism (StoryGraph | Goodreads) - Written by Shoshana Zuboff, this book provides startling insights into the phenomenon that she has named surveillance capitalism.
• The Reverse Centaur's Guide to Life After AI (StoryGraph | Goodreads) - In this book, Cory Doctorow walks through how a "reverse centaur" comes to be with AI use, while recounting both how we found ourselves in this dire situation and how we can get through it, to a life "after" AI in which the tools work for us, not the other way around.

Communication

• Aucards - A free and open-source app where you can create colorful communication cards to help you communicate with others. It's based on the concept of "autistic cards", which people with special needs use to quickly communicate their feelings, their requests or inform others of their conditions. • OneTalker - A free, open-source Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) desktop app written in Rust for reliability and speed. It aims to be simple, easy to use, and highly customisable and can be used on Windows, macOS and Linux. It focuses on 2 most important values expressed by people who rely on AAC: saying exactly what they want to say and saying it as fast as they can.
• OpenSymbols - Collection of open-licensed picture symbols that can be used for augmentative communication. Pulls from multiple sources and currently includes access to more than 50,000 symbols and icons, and exists as part of the OpenAAC Initiative to lower the barriers for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) adoption and to make it easier for teams to create AAC resources and activities without needing to pay for proprietary symbol libraries. A newer version, OpenSymbols v2, is actively being developed as of now.

Human-Centric Open Source Software (HCOSS)

HCOSS is an approach wherein an open source project strongly discourages and actively avoids AI/LLM use while encouraging human collaboration as a necessary prerequisite for contributions. Human collaboration happens in the sociosphere which combined with existing technical infrastructure (i.e. technosphere) protects the project not just from disclosed but also from undisclosed* AI contributions. The main aim of the HCOSS approach is to minimize maintainer burden and make the project more sustainable.

undisclosed* meaning where the author/bot took deliberate effort to hide the use of AI in their contribution, which then unfortunately the No-AI/Anti-AI approaches are unable to detect. These then only get detected in human discussions where the author/bot is unable to participate or hold ground because they cannot discuss something they do not understand.

Bot Handling

• iocaine - A defense mechanism against unwanted scrapers, sitting between upstream resources and the fronting reverse proxy. It is designed to significantly reduce load caused by relentless attack of the crawlers (mostly originating from various AI companies) in a way that does not place undue burden on benign visitors.

Community

• Awesome AI Regulation, Principles and Guidelines - Maps the ecosystem of artificial intelligence guidelines, principles, codes of ethics, standards, regulation and beyond.
• Manganin - A forge with git-based vouch trees and local-first issue tracking. Only those who have had their pubkey vouched by another trusted contributer can open issues or PRs, reducing spam and increasing the overall trust of the community environment. Issues are stored in git, so you can clone a repository to edit issues locally using your own editor.
• Project AI Policies - A list of AI policies adopted by various open source projects, maintained by CHAOSS AI Alignment working group.
• Vouch - A community trust management system based on explicit vouches to participate People can be vouched for before interacting with certain parts of a project (the exact parts are configurable to the project to enforce). People can also be explicitly denounced to block them from interacting with the project.

Detection and Alternatives

• LLM Afflicted Software - A public listing of software afflicted by the usage of LLMs for more than trivial amounts of the development process, along with alternatives. The listing is organized into category-wise YAML files.
• Open Slopware - List of Free/Open Source Software choosing to use and/or support LLM usage/AI, as well as alternatives and tips to requesting better policies or forking.
• Slopscore - CLI + web app that gives a "slop score" for any public git repository resolvable via https://. It goes through the entire commit history of a repository and detects visible signs of AI/LLM tool usage in the commit history and the source tree.
• Slopcheck - Checks for common signs of LLM-generated code in a repository and reports them. Such signs include: contributions directly from LLM agents, common mistakes only commonly made by LLMs, and the existence of files like AGENTS.md. This does not use any AI models or statistical inference.
• SlopFinder - A simple GUI-based app that analyzes a code repository and tries to find clues that indicate if developers are using AI to develop their application. It's a complete rewrite of Pixelo789's SlopFinder in Qt, with additional support for code platforms other than GitHub.
• Slopfree Software Index - A list of open-source projects that have taken steps to reject AI contributions in their development process and continue to be human-made.

You can also run it on an onion address.
• Omry - A searchable, offline archive of web pages. You could think of it as your personal library, where each "book" is a web page you saved, so you could come back to it. It also has a terminal client, Omry CLI .

• Blanket - A Linux desktop app to improve focus and increase productivity by listening to different sounds. Blanket can also be used to help to fall asleep in a noisy environment.
• Break Timer - An application for taking periodic breaks and preventing RSI, eye-strain and tiredness.
